Ronnie Barrett’s M82, designed in the early 1980s in Tennessee, is the rifle that made a .50 BMG anti-materiel round a shoulder-fired product. Adopted by the U.S. military as the M107 and sold on the civilian market as the M82A1, it is as much a piece of industrial design as a weapon: 29 pounds of recoil-operated steel with a 10-round magazine.
